The Petaluma Salvation Army operates a food pantry for the community. It is open to the community Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. It is staffed by some thirty community volunteers. The volunteers handle the operations from picking up weekly food donations to maintaining the 5,000 square foot food pantry warehouse.
During the pandemic the pantry was taking care of 400 families a week. At this time, depend- ing on the time of the month, the number of families ranges between 200 and 350 families a week.
Battling food insecurity is one of the biggest ways a community can help those in need. Helping to make sure that all children and seniors have adequate nutrition allows them to stay healthy. This allows families to budget for other needed items such as utilities, rent and cloths. The freezer unit would be something that would benefit the community for years to come.
A walk in Freezer would help in keeping product sorted by type, by date and help a great deal in the monthly utilities overhead of operating five household units instead of just one commercial and efficient unit.
Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to help with the food pantry. We can use 8 to 10 volunteers.
